Many people have inquired about the third person
in the car when Carter and Artis were stopped by police at 2:40
a.m., just 10 minutes after the murders. Although the police
officers did not identify the man at the time, prosecutors believe
it was John "Bucks" Royster, a friend of Carter's.
Royster testified at Carter's first trial on May 24, 1967 (I
don't know whether he testified at the second trial). Here is
