Lyric Theatre and Osceola Inn,
early 1900s
Looking south
down Brickell Avenue in what is now the heart of Las Olas Riverfront.
At the time this area was the heart of Fort Lauderdale's business
district.

Oseola Inn Burns,
July 17, 1913
It was the only
major building to survive the 1912 fire; it burned to the ground
in minutes. It "was the last vestige of the old downtown
section that existed in the original era of growth," according
to the book "Checkered Sunshine."

Osceola Inn Burns
The New River
Inn, on the other side of the tracks, can be seen in the background.
This view is looking west from Brickell Avenue one block south
of SW 2nd Street. Today you'd be standing in the middle of Riverfront
looking toward the building that houses the movie theaters.
